What are key strategies a district can implement to help its local property tax revenue keep up with the cost of providing services for students? And finally, how to communicate this information to your board and district stakeholders. The Forecast5 team presents with Cary Furniss, Treasurer and CFO of Kings Local School District, to learn from his district's assessment and journey to levy health.

Ernie Strawser

Ernie Strawser, Senior Vice President with Frontline Education (formerly Forecast5), has over 30 years of public finance experience as a CFO, consultant, developer and instructor of forecasting techniques and tools. Ernie works with clients to facilitate their understanding of local financial results, trends, and strategies. Prior to joining Forecast5, Ernie was a consultant for Public Finance Resources, and Treasurer/CFO at Norwood City School District in Hamilton County. He holds both a Master’s degree in Administration from Central Michigan University and a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Ohio University.

Cary Furniss

CFO/Treasurer, Kings Local SD

Cary Furniss has been Treasurer of Kings Local Schools since January 1, 2018. In this position, Mr. Furniss works with the Board of Education and administration to provide prudent financial management and leadership. The Treasurer's Office is responsible for all fiscal operations of the District. This includes budgeting, forecasting, investing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, financial reporting and serving as public records custodian.

Mr. Furniss is a 33-year veteran school business official. Prior to his time at Kings, he served as a Treasurer/CFO for Reading Community City Schools for 11+ years.  Mr. Furniss received his undergraduate degree from Wilmington College. He holds an active School Treasurer and Business Manager license.  Mr. Furniss is a member of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials and a past president of the Ohio Valley Chapter. He and his wife of Gerry of 30 years reside in Lebanon with three children.
