Hotel Reservations: Guest room rate is $139 plus 13.25% tax. Reservations will be made by calling Hotel directly at 740-788-1200 or 800-788-8008. Dr. Marguerite Roza, research professor at Georgetown University and director of Edunomics Lab. Dr. Roza will present an overview of the K-12 financial outlook and district budget timelines. She’ll share tools to help leaders strategically weigh investments to assess which can do the most for students with the dollars at hand and to make smart choices to ensure district financial health post-ESSER.
Conference participants will learn:
* How to prioritize spending on what students need most, and maintain investments in what’s working.
* How to design a better budget workshop with district-tested data tools and data displays.
* How to communicate spending decisions in ways that build trust.

Dr. Marguerite Roza
Director, Edunomics Lab / Research Professor, McCourt School, Georgetown University
Dr. Marguerite Roza is Research Professor at Georgetown University and Director of the Edunomics Lab, a research center exploring and modeling complex education finance decisions to inform policy and practice. She leads the McCourt School of Public Policy's Certificate in Education Finance, which equips participants with practical skills in strategic fiscal management, policy analysis, and leadership. Her research traces the effects of fiscal policies at the federal, state, and district levels for their implications on resources at the school and classroom levels. She is author of the highly regarded education finance book, Educational Economics: Where Do School Funds Go?
Roza was a Senior Economic Advisor to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and a Lieutenant in the US Navy teaching thermodynamics at the Naval Nuclear Power School. She earned a PhD in Education from the University of Washington, a BS from Duke University, and studied at the London School of Economics and the University of Amsterdam.
John Mansel-Pleydell
Professional Learning Group Supervisor, Northern Buckeye Educational Council
John Mansel-Pleydell serves as the Professional Learning Group Supervisor at the Northern Buckeye Education Council in Archbold, Ohio. With 25 years of experience in education, he holds a Master’s in Education with a focus on Classroom Technology from Bowling Green State University. In 2021, John co-founded the Ohio Learning Community. He is a Google for Education Certified Trainer, GEG Ohio Co-Leader, Seesaw Ambassador, and Kami Certified Educator.
David Clark
Curriculum and Technology Specialist, Butler County ESC
Dave is entering year eleven as a Curriculum and Technology Specialist at Butler County ESC where he works with school districts throughout Ohio. His primary area of professional development delivery over the last year has been the topic of Artificial Intelligence. He has made over 20 presentations on AI to a wide variety of audiences. He is also one of the co-creators of the Ohio Learning Community, which is a free online PD platform for educators and school employees. In the past, Dave worked with school districts in several areas including PBL creation and integration, instructional technology training, social studies content-area coaching, makerspace development, and classroom management. He is an ISTE Certified Educator and Trainer, developed Butler County’s Virtual Learning Collaborative for remote learning, and has presented on a variety of topics at local, state, and national conferences including the National HSTW Conference, OETC, OU Playful Learning, SPARCC, ITIP Ohio Google Summit, OBTA, OESCA, UC/NKU STEM and more. Before his role at BCESC, he was a middle school social studies teacher for 17 years.
